Tessa richter, lcsw
Hello! I'm Tessa. I'm a mom of three, a wife, a fan of matcha, mountains, and yoga mats, and an LCSW (the kind of social worker who can provide therapy) who's certified in perinatal mental health (PMH-C) and endorsed in infant mental health (IMH-E). I've also had my fair share of less-than-ideal pregnancy and postpartum experiences.
But most importantly, I love babies. I've been enthralled with newborns, infants, and toddlers since I could tote around baby dolls. They are miraculous little creatures and bring me so much joy. I studied child & family development in college in Missouri, then earned a master of social work (MSW) in Denver. I've worked in a variety of positions in the child welfare field over the past 15 years, including direct practice, program development, and state and national policy. Through it all, my passion has been to help parents and their little ones create strong, healthy relationships full of delight. When I figured out how to bring attachment theory, child development, and parent support together by providing therapy to folks in one of the most challenging transitions of their life, all the puzzle pieces clicked together.
That's why I started Rooted. There is SO MUCH noise out there about the "best" way to parent... often not based in science, and rarely focused on the wellbeing of babies, toddlers, and parents (or the fact that there is NO BEST WAY to parent!).
My goal is to help families settle into a relationship that meets the child's AND parents' social and emotional needs.
You deserve to find joy in your child and in being a parent.
My crew, 2024
My husband and I went to high school together and met in Science Club.
Friendship and maintaining a community of support is really important to me. I ask my friends for help, and I expect them to ask me for the same.
I've gotten a lot better at self-care since I've become a parent, not because I need to "fill my cup so I can pour out to others," but because I am a person, and people deserve to do things that make them feel happy and human.
I read, a lot. Fiction, non-fiction, biographies, historical fiction. I gave in a few years ago and bought a Paperwhite, which now goes everywhere with me. I also dig podcasts.
Favorites: tacos, oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, matcha, kombucha, walks, yoga, sunshine, rock climbing, and being in the mountains with my crew.
